Man arrested after stabbing leaves woman dead inside Chicago North Side home

Man arrested after deadly stabbing in Chicago's Budlong Woods neighborhood

A man was arrested after a woman was stabbed to death inside a home Saturday night in Budlong Woods.

It happened just before 11:30 p.m. in the 2700 block of West Balmoral Avenue.

Chicago police say officers responded to a call of service and found the victim, a 29-year-old woman, inside the residence with a stab wound to the torso.

She was taken to Ascension St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where she died.

Further investigation indicated that the victim was in a fight with a 35-year-old man who pulled out a knife and attacked her before leaving the scene.

Police said a young boy called 911 after finding his mother wounded in a bedroom. He told dispatchers his father closed the door and refused to let anyone inside.

Ald. Andre Vasquez (40th) said in a notice to his constituents that police had reported the stabbing was domestic in nature. The victim and the suspect were believed to have known each other, Vasquez wrote.

The man was taken into custody, and charges are pending.

Belmont Area detectives are investigating.
