Five Dead After Bicyclists Hit By Vehicle

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (CBS) -- At least five people were killed Tuesday when a group of bicyclists was struck by a vehicle, CBS affiliate WWMT reported.

Investigators told the station at least nine people were hit by a pickup truck. At least five were killed.

All of those killed were bicyclists riding down the road when a pickup truck came up behind them, and struck the group. Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting said the driver was a 50-year-old man from western Michigan, but would not elaborate.

The Kalamazoo Gazette reported the crash may have been a hit and run.

The driver is in police custody.

In addition to Michigan State Police, the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department and Kalamazoo Township Police were on scene, according to WWMT.
