Dozens Of Firearms Collected At St. Sabina Gun Buyback

CHICAGO (CBS) -- St. Sabina Church collected dozens of guns during its gun buyback program Saturday.

When St. Sabina Church opened its doors to buy back guns, it had a much deeper mission to Fr. Michael Pfleger. He says it was about establishing relationships and helping people. There were tables at the gun buyback with information on GED classes and youth programs.

"The gun is part of it but we have got to change this mentality where guns are part of America's wardrobe," Pfleger said.

Those turning in a gun received either $100 for each weapon. St. Sabina collected more than 77 guns Saturday and three will turned in Sunday by prior arrangement.
