Deerfield commission meeting postponed after residents hoping to stop industrial park flood in

Decision on proposed Deerfield industrial park postponed

DEERFIELD, Ill. (CBS) -- As Baxter International Inc. pharmaceuticals moves out, people living in Deerfield hope to keep its corporate headquarters from becoming an industrial park.

The buyers of the property hoped to get the property rezoned at a planning commission meeting Thursday evening.

Bridge Industrial wants to clear out the current buildings and create a 1 million-square-foot industrial park. Neighbors are urging the city to reject that plan.

They say all the trucks coming in and out of the facility will pose a safety risk to their children – and lower their quality of life. They want the plan commission to delay a zoning decision.

At the plan commission meeting Thursday night, so many people showed up that the meeting was deemed out of compliance with village code – as not everyone could fit into the space for the meeting as required.

Thus, the meeting has been rescheduled for Thursday, May 11.
