Cubs Acquire Pitcher Rex Brothers From Rockies

(CBS) The Cubs have acquired left-handed pitcher Rex Brothers from the Rockies in exchange for minor league pitcher Wander Cabrera.

Brothers, 27, is 16-11 with 61 holds, 20 saves and a 3.42 ERA over the last five seasons in Colorado. In that span, he has 278 strikeouts in 242 1/3 innings pitched, a 10.3 strikeout-per-nine-innings rate. He has finished two of his five seasons with a sub-2.00 ERA.

In 2015, Brothers split time between Colorado and Triple-A Albuquerque, recording a 1.74 ERA in the majors.

Brothers has played all five of his seasons with the Rockies.

The Cubs traded Cabrera, an 18-year-old left-handed pitcher who was signed to the organization last season.
