CTA, Metra Offer Extra Service For Lollapalooza

CHICAGO (STMW) -- The CTA and Metra will add trains this weekend to accommodate thousands of passengers headed for Lollapalooza in Grant Park.

During the popular summer music festival, which runs Thursday through Sunday, the CTA will operate longer trains and provide more frequent evening service on Blue, Red, Orange and Brown Line trains.

The Green Line and the Yellow Line will have longer trains and extended hours of operation. The CTA will provide more frequent service on the Pink Line on Thursday and Friday only.

Metra will operate extra trains, increase seating capacity and adjust schedules during the four-day festival. It will provide additional service in the mornings and evenings on eight of its 11 lines.

Alcohol and glass containers won't be allowed on Metra trains after 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and all day Saturday and Sunday. Due to an increased number of customers expected this weekend, bicycles might not be accommodated.

Metra is selling unlimited ride, four-day train passes for $20 each through the Ventra app and at all ticket windows.

The CTA recommends buying fares in advance to avoid long lines at kiosks.

Several CTA bus routes near Grant Park will be detoured from Thursday through Monday because of street closures for the event.

The detoured routes are No. 2 Hyde Park Express, No. 6 Jackson Park Express, No. 7 Harrison, No. 10 Museum of Science & Industry, No. J14 Jeffery Jump, No. 26 South Shore Express, No. 126 Jackson, No. 132 Goose Island Express, No. 143 Stockton/Michigan Express and No. 147 Outer Drive Express.

For the Cubs-Sox Crosstown Classic at Wrigley Field at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, the CTA will provide extra bus service on the No. 80 Irving Park and the No. 152 Addison routes.
