Crossing Guard Struck, Seriously Injured In West Pullman

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A school crossing guard was recovering from serious injuries, after a driver struck her earlier this week in the West Pullman neighborhood, and then took off.

Children were crossing the street around 4 p.m. Monday, when an SUV traveling "at a high rate of speed" struck the 27-year-old crossing guard at the intersection of 127th Street and Union Avenue, according to police.

No students were hit, but the crossing guard was seriously injured.

The driver fled the scene without stopping.

Police were searching for a black or dark-colored SUV that left the scene headed west on 127th Street, and then north on Emerald Avenue.

Anyone with information on the incident should call Area South detectives at 312-745-4521.
