Baby ejected from SUV in Northwest Indiana in violent crash

Crash in Shererville, Indiana leaves SUV split in half

SCHERERVILLE, Ind. (CBS) -- A violent crash in Schererville, Indiana, split an SUV in half, causing a baby to be ejected from the vehicle. 

The crash happened Saturday night near Route 30 and Burr Street.

A mother and a baby were both inside the vehicle that was split in half. The baby was ejected from the vehicle and was immediately treated by a medical professional who stopped to assist.

The mother had to be extracted from the vehicle, and both were transported to the hospital for treatment. Authorities did not provide information on their injuries. 

The driver of the other vehicle was taken into custody with charges pending. Alcohol and speed are believed to be a factor in this crash.
