Cooler day ahead with sunny skies in Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) — Gusty north winds of recent days are settling down, allowing for the coolest overnight temperatures in a week and a half.

Chicago residents wake up in the 50s on Wednesday, while the 40s are easy to find in Illinois and Indiana rural areas.

Low-humidity sunshine continues throughout the week as the gradual return of south winds warms daytime temperatures back to the 80s on Thursday and Friday.

A late summer heat wave builds in this weekend into early next week, with highs in the 90s and feels-like temperatures rising to near 100 degrees. There will also be a slight chance of thunderstorms beginning Saturday.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny. Mild. High: 77

Thursday: Mostly sunny and warmer. High: 80
