Power restored to west suburban ComEd customers

Power was restored to ComEd customers in the western suburbs after a communications fell on power lines Friday morning and left thousands in the dark. County.

The outage was caused by a communications tower falling on ComEd power lines near Schmale and St. Charles roads in Carol Stream, the utility confirmed. They said the communications tower does not belong to ComEd. 

Power was lost around 11:15 a.m. Friday for most customers. At the peak of the outage Friday afternoon more than 26,000 ComEd customers were without power in Wheaton, Carol Stream, Winfield, Hannover Park and Addison.

Power was restored around 8 p.m.
