Chicago weekend shootings leave 1 dead, 24 wounded, according to police

Man, 29, shot in Humboldt Park

At least one other person was killed and 24 others were wounded in weekend shootings across Chicago as of Saturday.

The ages of the victims range from 6 to 50.

Shootings from Friday

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 20-year-old man was shot in his lower leg just before 6 p.m. in the 1400 block of South Kedvale Avenue.

He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.

Police said they were unable to locate the crime scene.

Later in the evening, around 9:35 p.m., a 6-year-old boy was shot while inside a vehicle in the 3700 block of West 59th Place.

According to police, the child was a passenger in the vehicle when someone inside a westbound white SUV shot at the vehicle, hitting the boy in the backside.

He was taken to Christ Hospital in good condition.

In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Shootings from Saturday

  • At 12:57 a.m. in the 8500 block of South Marquette Avenue, officers responded to Jackson Park Hospital, where three men self-transported after being shot. The men were traveling in a vehicle when they were shot at by an unknown person in another vehicle. A 32-year-old was grazed in the hand and is in good condition. A 25-year-old man was hit in the torso and leg and is also in good condition. The third man, whose age was not released, was hit in the cheek and hand and is in good condition.
  • At 4:44 a.m. in the 11600 block of South Church Street, a 28-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds throughout the body. He was taken to Christ Hospital in serious condition and later died.
  •  At 4:41 a.m. in the 1100 block of North Hoyne Avenue, a 23-year-old man was inside a vehicle when a black-in-color Nissan sedan approached and someone from inside fired shots in the victim's direction. The victim was hit in the back and was taken to Stroger in good condition.
  •  At 6:09 a.m. in the 4700 block of West Harrison Street, a 50-year-old man was outside when a silver-in-color sedan approached and someone from inside began to fire shots in the victim's direction. The victim was hit in the chest and right arm. He was taken to Mt. Sinai in serious condition.
  • At 10:40 a.m. in the 5000 block of W. West End Avenue, a 48-year-old man was outside when someone shot at him. The victim was grazed in the neck and was taken to Loretto Hospital in good condition.
  • At 5:13 p.m. in the 1500 block of East 67th Place, a man, 42, was inside a vehicle when he accidentally shot himself in the leg. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
  •  At 5:53 p.m. in the 5200 block of South Laflin Street, a 16-year-old boy was near the sidewalk when he was shot in the calf. The victim was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition.
  • At 10 p.m. in the 500 block of North Kedzie Avenue, officers responded to a call of a walk-in person shot at Stroger Hospital. The victim, a 29-year-old man, told officers that he was walking outside when he heard a loud noise and felt pain. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body and self-transported to Stroger Hospital in fair condition.

Shootings from Sunday

  •  At 1:12 a.m. in the 6200 block of South California Avenue, an 18-year-old man was walking outside when he heard a loud noise, then felt pain. The victim was shot in the right thigh and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
  • At 3:50 a.m. in the 8300 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, a 41-year-old man was driving when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim was hit in the back of the head. The unknown gunman fled the scene. The victim was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in serious condition.
  • At 8:29 a.m. in the 4000 block of West Madison Street, a 17-year-old boy was outside when an unknown person approached on foot and began to fire shots in his direction. The victim was hit in his left knee and self-transported to Loretto Hospital in good condition.
  • At 3 p.m., a 23-year-old man was in a vehicle in the 6300 block of South Western Avenue in Chicago Lawn when he was struck in the leg by gunfire. He self-transported to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition.
  • At 7:42 p.m., a 33-year-old man said he got into a quarrel with a man in the 6300 block of North Western Avenue in West Rogers Park, and the fight became physical. The other man took out a gun and shot the first man in the elbow and fled the scene, police said. The victim was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in good condition.
  • At 9:50 pm in the 1000 block of North Monticello Avenue, officers responded to a walk-in gunshot victim at St. Mary's Hospital. The victim, a 37-year-old man, told officers that he was outside when a white sedan stopped near him. An unknown man exited the passenger side, pulled out a gun, and fired multiple shots. The victim was hit in the right armpit and was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in good condition.
  •  At 10:14 p.m. in the 3500 block of West Jackson Boulevard, a 52-year-old man was standing outside when he heard a loud noise and felt pain. The victim was hit in the left arm and was taken to Mt Sinai Hospital in fair condition.
  • At 11:24 p.m. in the 700 block of South Springfield Avenue, an unknown man was arguing with another man before shooting into a crowd of people, hitting four teens.  A 15-year-old girl suffered a gunshot wound to the right leg and is in good condition at Stroger Hospital. A 16-year-old girl suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body and is in fair condition at Mt. Sinai Hospital. A 13-year-old boy was shot in the right thigh and is in fair condition at Stroger. A 14-year-old boy was hit in the chest and is in critical condition at Stroger.

Shootings from Monday

  • At 3:29 a.m. in the 2200 block of South Michigan Avenue, a 46-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were standing outside when they were approached by an unknown armed man who fired in their direction. The man was hit twice in the lower abdomen and was taken to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition. The woman was hit twice in the lower abdomen and once in the lower back. She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition. 

Unless otherwise noted, no arrests were made in either incident.
