Tow Truck Driver Burned In Chicago Explosion

(CBS) – A tow truck driver received burn injuries Monday afternoon when a vehicle exploded on Chicago's North Side -- an apparent freak accident.

A representative for Chicagoland HXL Towing said one of the company's drivers was responding to a call of a disabled vehicle when the explosion occurred. The employee was airlifted to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood and had third-degree burns, the company representative tells CBS 2.

A message was left with the Chicago Fire Department, which responded to the scene in the the 1800 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, in Chicago's Ravenswood neighborhood. A burned-out vehicle could be observed.
