Chicago First Alert Weather: Keep the sunscreen handy

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Conditions were bright and sunny in downtown Chicago late Thursday afternoon, but parts of the area were being pounded with storms.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued Thursday afternoon for Lake County, Indiana. It has since expired – but a cell of storms was still pounding the Merrillville, Crown Point, and St. John areas. One-inch diameter hail was expected.

A line of storms also extended southeast from West Dundee through Elgin, Wayne, Winfield, Downers Grove, and Countryside, CBS 2 Meteorologist Mary Kay Kleist reported.

Rain chances decrease after 6 p.m. 

Meanwhile, highs Thursday afternoon were once again near 90 degrees.

Skies will be partly cloudy Thursday evening, then mostly clear overnight with lows in the mid 60s.

Mainly dry, mostly sunny and hot for Friday. Highs will be in the upper 80s and low 90s. A lake breeze will keep temperatures near the lake in the low 80s.

It will be mostly sunny this weekend with highs in the upper 80s on Saturday, then low 80s on Sunday.

It will turn a bit cooler next week with highs in the 70s Tuesday to Thursday.
