Jeep crashes into home in Niles

NILES, Ill. (CBS) – A person was hospitalized Wednesday after a car struck a home in Niles Wednesday morning.

Niles Fire Department District Chief Orlando Diaz said crews were dispatched to an auto accident on Normal Avenue and Greenwood Street.

Police said at 5:26 a.m., a 30-year-old man had been driving a black Jeep Wrangler south on Greenwood Avenue when he suffered a medical incident.

He crashed into a house in the 8500 block of West Normal Avenue, police said.

The driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital by Niles Fire Department paramedics.

The natural gas meter at the house was severed during the crash, causing a gas leak, police said. Nicor handled the leak, but the house was not inhabitable after the crash due to the damaged gas meter.

The occupants of the house have been offered aid by Niles Family Services.

The driver of the Jeep that crashed was cited for driving off the roadway.
