16-year-old in critical condition after shooting on Chicago's West Side

CHICAGO (CBS) – A 16-year-old boy was critically hurt following a shooting inside a building on the city's West Side Friday morning.

Chicago police said around 11:12 a.m., the boy was standing in a hallway in the 5000 block of West Madison Street when two unknown offenders fired shots in the victim's direction – striking him in the back of the head and abdomen.  

He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead. 

The offenders, described as wearing dark clothing, ran out of the building and fled eastbound on Madison Street.

Shooting on Chicago's West Side leaves teen in critical condition

No arrests were made.

A witness at the scene told CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot that the teen's grandmother and sister ran from the building after the shooting.

The witness, who requested not to be identified, said two young men wearing dark-colored hoodies also left the building right after the shooting.

Area 4 detectives are investigating.
