Anthony Rizzo On His Champion Cubs: 'One Of The Best Teams To Ever Play This Game'

(CBS) After a 103-win regular season, the Cubs finished Wednesday night when they'd set out to do back in February.

They broke their 108-year championship drought with a heart-pounding 8-7, 10-inning win against the Indians in Game 7 of the World Series, bringing the franchise its first title since 1908.

In the glory of the moment, Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo wasted no time explaining where he believes this team belongs in history.

"It happened, it happened," Rizzo said on 670 The Score. "People have been waiting for this forever, and we did it. This team is in the books forever.

"We're the last team standing. We boat-raced the whole season. We're going down in history as one of the best teams to ever play this game, no doubt about it."

The Cubs had to persevere in the decisive game, as the Indians rallied from a four-run deficit, scoring three times in the eighth inning to tie it at 6-6. Ben Zobrist then came through with an RBI double in the top of the 10th and Miguel Montero followed with an RBI single, which was enough to hold off Cleveland's one-run rally in the bottom half.

"I swear to you, in the dugout, they never, ever gave up hope," Cubs manager Joe Maddon said.
