5 hurt including 2 CPD officers, ISP trooper in separate crashes on Dan Ryan

CHICAGO (CBS) – Five people were hurt, including 2 Chicago police officers and an Illinois State Police trooper in two separate crashes on the Dan Ryan Expressway overnight.

It happened around 2:11 a.m. in the southbound lanes near 95th Street.

ISP said a trooper's squad car rear-ended a passenger car leaving both vehicles disabled. During this time, another ISP and a Chicago police squad car responded to the scene with emergency lights activated.

After the initial crash, another car then struck the CPD vehicle – causing it to hit the rear of the assisting ISP squad car. Both were unoccupied at the time of the crash, ISP said.

The Chicago Fire Department said two CPD officers and one ISP trooper were taken to Christ Hospital with minor injuries. Two civilians were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center also with minor injuries. One other person refused treatment.

Lanes were shut down with traffic being diverted off 95th Street. All lanes have since reopened.

CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reported the crash didn't cause any slowdowns on the expressway.
