3 shot during balloon release in Dolton, Illinois

Three people were shot while attending a balloon release in Dolton, Illinois, on Tuesday night.

A spokesperson for the village said the shooting happened in the 15100 block of Cornell Avenue.

Witnesses reported that a balloon release was about to take place when someone, who was hiding in the bushes nearby, stepped out and opened fire on a crowd of 25 to 30 people. 

Police said the gunman fired 30 to 40 rounds. 

All three victims were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Their ages and genders were not released.

As of Wednesday morning, no arrests were made.

Detectives are investigating.

CBS News Chicago was told the victims were grieving a former Dolton resident, but that person's identity has not been released.
