Pedestrian dies after being hit by vehicle on Chicago expressway, state police say

Pedestrian killed in crash on Kennedy Expressway, state police say

CHICAGO (CBS) — A pedestrian was killed in a crash Wednesday evening on the Kennedy Expressway.

Illinois State Police said the crash happened around 5:43 p.m. in the southbound lanes near Canfield Avenue.

A preliminary investigation indicated that troopers responded to a report of a fatal crash. 

For unknown reasons, a pedestrian entered the left lane of traffic and was struck by a vehicle. Debris from the crash entered the middle lane and hit another vehicle, state police said.

The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital and later died. No other injuries were reported.

Inbound I-90 was shut down at Cumberland until shortly before 10 p.m. 

No further information was immediately available.
