1 Dead After Fiery Crash On I-355 At Army Trail Road Toll Plaza

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A driver was killed Wednesday night when a vehicle caught fire after a crash on the Veterans Memorial Tollway.

Illinois State Police said, around 8:40 p.m., two vehicles were approaching the cash toll lanes in the northbound lanes of I-355 at Army Trail Road, when a 2013 Audi A8 rear-ended a black 2004 BMW.

The BMW caught fire, and was fully engulfed in flames. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim's' name has not been released.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 34-year-old man from Chicago, suffered minor injuries, and was taken to AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center GlenOaks for treatment.

No one else was injured.

The northbound cash toll lanes at Army Trail Road were closed for nearly six hours after the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
