1 Dead, 1 Wounded In South Side Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) -- One person was killed and another hospitalized following a shooting in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.

The shooting happened about 12:30 p.m. in the 700 block of East 79th Street, Police News Affairs officer Michael Sullivan said, citing preliminary information.

One male was shot in the head and was dead on police arrival, he said. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office was on the scene, but had no further details.

The second male suffered gunshot wounds to the elbow and forearm, and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in "stable" condition.

No one is in custody as Area South detectives investigate.
