1 Dead, 1 Wounded In Separate Evanston Shootings

EVANSTON, Ill. (CBS/STMW) -- Evanston police are investigating two overnight shootings that left one man dead and another injured and in both cases police officers heard the shots.

An officer on patrol heard shots ring out about 12:45 a.m. in the 1900 block of Brown Avenue and, upon arrival, found a vehicle crashed into a tree with a 22-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds behind the steering wheel, according to a statement from Evanston police.

Albert Norman, of the 1700 block of Grey Avenue in Evanston, was taken to Evanston Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:30 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Norman was apparently the only person in the vehicle, police said.

About 3:30 a.m., officers at the scene investigating that shooting heard shots fired in the 1900 block of Davis Avenue, police said.

Officers found a man, 50, who had been standing outside, with several gunshot wounds to his leg, police said. He was taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston where he remains in "stable" condition.

Police are investigating whether the two shootings are connected.
