Man Charged With OUI In Worcester Hit-And-Run That Killed Woman, Critically Injured Brother

WORCESTER (CBS) -- An Ayer man is charged with motor vehicle homicide and drunk driving after allegedly plowing his car into a brother and sister, killing the woman.

The siblings, whose names have not yet been released, were unpacking groceries from their own car parked in front of their apartment building on Lincoln Street.

The 48-year-old woman was dragged about 600 feet and died at the scene. Her 46-year-old brother was also hit and is in critical condition.

A family friend says the driver never stopped after the woman was pinned underneath the car.

"He dragged the victim all the way down to the bridge and he continued to speed off," the friend said.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute campus police said they saw a black Dodge Charger driving on West Street with its headlights off shortly after the incident. An officer followed the vehicle as it pulled into a parking lot, and notified Worcester police.

Officers said Daniel Depew, 29, displayed "obvious signs of intoxication." He was arrested and charged with a third offense of operating under the influence of alcohol, and motor vehicle homicide, among other charges.

Depew is set to be arraigned in Worcester District Court on Monday.
