Water Main Leak Stalls Traffic Near South Station

BOSTON (CBS) – A water main leak near South Station made an already wet rush hour a bigger mess downtown.

A two-foot water transition main sprung a leak around 5:30 a.m. on Kneeland Street, according to a Boston Water and Sewer spokesperson.

There are five separate water mains running through the area and it took crews awhile to determine which one was leaking.

There was a contractor in the area Tuesday night doing construction work, but it's not clear if that's what caused the leak.

Crews shut the water off, but it's not known how long it will take to repair the water main and the street.
