Sharon Man Hooks Potential World Record Carp While Ice Fishing

SHEFFIELD (CBS) – A Sharon man may have reeled in a world record during an ice fishing trip last week.

Andrew Plumridge caught a 32-lb., 2 oz. common carp that measured 35 ¾ inches while ice fishing on the Housatonic River in Sheffield on January 31.

According to Plumridge's fishing guide, Paul Tawczynski, it was only the second fish Plumridge had ever caught in his life. It took about a 1/2 hour to reel the fish out.

Tawczynski, who owns Charter the Berkshires, said it took a major effort to pull the fish through the eight-inch hole in the ice. Tawczynski had the fish weighed at a certified station before releasing it.

The catch needs to be verified by the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in Hayward, Wisconsin in order to be official.

Because it's a relatively new category, there's actually no previous record for catch-and-release carp during ice fishing.
