Severe Delays On Green Line Due To Power Problem; Riders Escorted Off Train

BOSTON (CBS) -- Severe delays were reported on the Green Line Monday because of a power problem, the MBTA said.

"Some catenary is down between Park and Boylston Stations on the westbound side," the MBTA said. "Trolley service is temporarily suspended between Haymarket and Arlington."

One Green Line rider told WBZ-TV that it appears that wires came off the ceiling and struck a train, leaving a dent.

Sarah Rubenstein was one of the passengers escorted by MBTA officials down the tracks from Park Street to Boylston Station after the power shut off.

"It was pretty scary," she told WBZ-TV. "I definitely heard a lot of people screaming."

The MBTA said at about 4 p.m. Monday that service had resumed in the area with minor delays.
