Reports: Tight End Dustin Keller Visits Patriots
BOSTON (CBS) -- With many NFL eyes looking ahead to the draft, the Patriots are doing their due diligence on one more big-name free agent.
The team hosted tight end Dustin Keller on Wednesday, according to the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe and ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Keller, 29, tore the ACL, MCL and PCL in his knee last year during the preseason, but a source told Howe that Keller's knee is healed.
The tight end spent his first five NFL seasons with the Jets, with his best output coming in 2011, when he caught 65 passes for 815 yards and five touchdowns. Playing in just half of the games in the 2012 season, he hauled in 28 receptions for 317 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
In 10 career games against the Patriots, Keller has 40 receptions for 509 yards and four touchdowns, his best numbers against any team.
The Patriots currently have Rob Gronkowski, who is recovering from a torn knee of his own, and Michael Hoomanawanui currently on the roster at tight end.
