Report: Rob Gronkowski To Undergo Surgery On Thursday

BOSTON (CBS) -- Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will undergo surgery to repair his knee on Thursday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Dr. James Andrews will perform the surgery on the torn ACL, according to the report.

Gronkowski suffered a torn ACL and MCL on Dec. 8 when Browns safety T.J. Ward made a diving tackle on the tight end, going helmet-first into Gronkowski's knee.

NFL Network's Albert Breer tweeted that the scheduled ACL surgery means that the MCL has healed for Gronkowski.

Reports shortly after the injury stated that Gronkowski "should be ready" for Patriots training camp next summer. Of course, Gronkowski's history of going under the knife hasn't always been completely successful, and his four surgeries to repair his broken forearm pushed back his timetable for recovery last offseason.

But the Patriots will hope to see No. 87 healthy when next season begins. He's played in 18 games combined in the past two seasons, making 94 receptions for 1,382 yards and 15 touchdowns.
