95% Chance Someone Will Win Powerball Jackpot Wednesday, Report Says

NEW YORK (CBS) – Powerball mania could be coming to an end very soon.

A report on FiveThirtyEight.com, a popular statistical analysis website, says it's almost certain that there will be one or more winners of the $1.5 billion jackpot after Wednesday night's drawing.

"In all the trajectories of the model we're playing around with, there's a ballpark 95 percent chance someone wins this," the article states.

There hasn't been a Powerball winner since early November.

The odds of matching five numbers and the Powerball are 1 in 292.2 million. FiveThirtyEight says it's tricky to forecast how many tickets will be bought for the latest drawing, but they believe it could exceed 1 billion.

The website also noted that there was no grand prize winner in Saturday's drawing despite a 78 percent chance that someone would hit all the right numbers.
