Patriots Sign Linebacker Josh Hull

BOSTON (CBS) -- The New England Patriots boosted their depth on special teams and at linebacker on Thursday, signing four-year veteran Josh Hull.

The 26-year-old Hull spent last season with the Washington Redskins after spending the first three years of his NFL career with the St. Louis Rams. Hull was drafted by St. Louis in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL draft out of Penn State.

In 39 NFL games, including one start, Hull has registered 25 total tackles. He played 11 games with the Redskins last season, totaling a career-best 14 tackles.

The Patriots lost both Brandon Spikes and Dane Fletcher to free agency in the offseason, and Hull could help when it comes to New England's depth at the position. He'll likely take over for Fletcher on special teams, though linebacker figures to be a position of emphasis for the Patriots at next month's draft.
