Man Facing Murder Charge In New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) — A New Bedford man already under arrest in connection with a shooting last week near a city cellphone store is now facing a murder charge.

Prosecutors say 36-year-old Jason Valliere is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.

Valliere was originally charged with accessory after the fact of murder in connection with the shooting last Thursday near the MetroPCS cellular store on Coggeshall Street. The victim was identified as 36-year-old Javon Brown of Dartmouth.

Brown was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities did not immediately disclose what led to the conclusion that Valliere was the shooter. It's not clear if he has a lawyer.
