Large Tree Falls On Car Passing By In Methuen
METHUEN (CBS) -- A large tree fell on a Mini Cooper convertible on Tyler Street in Methuen.
The woman driving the car was not hurt.
Marianna Eskander was one minute from work when the tree snapped.
"I was like waiting to die every moment. I was waiting for the tree to hit my head," she said.
It was early Friday afternoon and the sky was clear and sunny.
Those who responded pointed out the inside of the tree looked rotted.
Victoria Aspell says she saw the tree fall onto the car.
"I hear a crack and saw the tree splitting. All I could think is this woman OK? Is she alright?" she said.
"I don't know what happened but all of a sudden I had a tree on my car," Eskander says.
With the help of neighbors, she was able to crawl out and call her husband.
"She said, 'I am OK, but the car is broken,'" said Mina Atwan, Eskander's husband.
After seeing the car, Atwan says he wouldn't have trusted his wife was alive if he had not seen her first.
The couple was married in January.
Atwan bought the car for his bride as a surprise present three weeks ago.
The best gift is knowing she was saved.
"Thankfully, she's out. She's OK (and) that's all I need. I don't care about the car," he said.
Residents said over the years they've asked the town if the tree needed to be taken down.
