Former State Transportation Chief To Head Olympics Group
BOSTON (AP) — Former Massachusetts Transportation Secretary Richard Davey has been named to head the organization leading the drive to bring the 2024 Summer Olympics to Boston.
Davey will be the chief executive officer for Boston 2024. He succeeds Dan O'Connell, who led the group through the initial phase of the process that resulted in Boston being chosen as America's bidding city for the games.

Davey was the general manager of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority before being named by then-Gov. Deval Patrick in 2011 to serve as state transportation secretary and chief executive of MassDOT.
Boston 2024 chairman John Fish cited Davey's knowledge of complex transportation systems and his reputation for "smart, innovative leadership."
The International Olympic Committee is slated to pick a host city for the games in 2017.
