Driver Arrested After Newton Rollover Crash

NEWTON (CBS) -- A Fitchburg man was arrested Tuesday morning after a rollover crash on Route 9 eastbound.

James Copeland, 55, was charged with operating with a suspended or revoked license, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and marked lanes violation.

State Police responded to the crash around 5:22 a.m. Tuesday. They said Copeland's 2004 Ford Expedition knocked over a telephone pole and electrical wires.

The crash caused severe delays and the closure of one lane of Route 9, which was reopened about an hour later.

Copeland was found to be driving with a suspended license. He is expected to be arraigned in Newton District Court later Tuesday.
