Don Orsillo Will Reportedly Become Padres Announcer
BOSTON (CBS) -- We knew it wouldn't take long for Don Orsillo to find another broadcast booth to call home.
Orsillo, who is being dumped by NESN after the current Red Sox season, will reportedly head to San Diego and join the Padres team broadcast. Orsillo will replace legendary announcer Dick Enberg after the 2016 season, according to ESPN's Gordon Edes.
News broke last month that NESN was moving on from Orsillo after 15 years in the booth, causing a public outcry among Red Sox fans. Numerous fan petitions have been started to keep Orsillo, and fans crowded Fenway Park with signs of support over the last month.
Orsillo, a Melrose native who went to Northeastern, received a standing ovation from both fans and Boston players during Sunday's win over the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway, the team's final home game of the season.
Orsillo will reportedly also get to do some national work with FOX and FS1 as part of his deal with the Padres. He will be replaced on NESN by Red Sox radio announcer Dave O'Brien.
