Red Sox Fans Meet David Ortiz After Snagging Historic Home Run Ball
BOSTON (CBS) – A break for beer and snacks paid off for a group of Red Sox fans Monday night.
Christopher Biskup, who grew up in Maine but lives in Boston, was taking in the Red Sox-Orioles game at Fenway Park with friends Rob Jordan, Dan Fenway and Connor Hasson.
Biskup, who had bleacher seats, said he and his friends went to the concession stand and while they were walking back up the ramp, David Ortiz came to bat.
Ortiz launched his 536th career home run into the Baltimore bullpen, tying him with Mickey Mantle for 17th place in Major League history. The ball bounced in the direction of the group.
Jordan leaned over the fence above the bullpen and plucked it out of the air, with video evidence to prove it.
Before long, security personnel approached Jordan to make a deal for the ball.
At first, Biskup says they declined an offer for autographs. Eventually they struck a deal to exchange the ball in person with Ortiz.
After the game, the friends met Ortiz and gave him the ball in exchange for autographs.
Not a bad way to end a beer run.
