Daily Talker: Changing The School Calendar

Boston public school students could see significant changes to their calendars soon.

Superintendent Tommy Chang tells the Boston Globe he is considering starting the school year before Labor Day.  The changes would also extend the December break to allow more time for international students to visit their family during the holiday season, but it would eliminate the week off students currently receive in February.

Starting the school year early would give the district more time to make up snow days at the end of the year, but could be difficult for students in schools where there is no air conditioning.

If approved, the changes would be phased in beginning in August 2017.

We want to know what you think.  Does a change to the vacation schedule make sense? Would it be too much of a burden for parents?
