CVS Pharmacies In NH To Sell Overdose Reversal Drug Without Prescription

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (CBS) – CVS has announced it will expand sales of overdose reversal drugs at stores in New Hampshire, a state hit hard by the opioid crisis.

Naloxone, commonly sold under the brand name Narcan, will be available over-the-counter at all pharmacies in the Granite State.

CVS said in a statement Thursday that it has a "standing order" with New Hampshire doctors to expand access to the life-saving drug.

"Naloxone is a safe and effective antidote to opioid overdoses. . . we can help save lives," said Tom Davis, the vice president of pharmacy professional practices at CVS. "We support expanding naloxone availability to give more people a chance to get the help they need for recovery."

CVS already makes naloxone available without a prescription in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and 20 other states.
