Boston Teachers Approve Plan To Extend School Day

BOSTON (CBS) - Boston teachers have approved Mayor Marty Walsh's plan to add 40 minutes to the school day at the city's public schools.

The plan is expected to cost the city about $13 million a year and add about $4,500 to teachers' salaries.

"It's a great opportunity for us to have more teaching time in the classroom and also more teacher development time and I'm proud of the vote today by the teachers union," Mayor Walsh said Wednesday night.

The plan still needs the approval of the School Committee.
