Boston And Portsmouth, N.H., Among Cities Added To New Monopoly Board

BOSTON (CBS) – Fans of the iconic game Monopoly have voted to add two New England cities as spaces on the board for an upcoming version of the game produced by Hasbro.

The Rhode Island-based company announced on Thursday that Boston and Portsmouth, N.H., will each be featured on Monopoly Here & Now, which is being released in the fall.

In the U.S. version of the game, Boston will be represented as a red space along with Detroit and Milwaukee. Portsmouth will be a light blue space alongside Charlotte and Dallas.

There are a total of 22 cities that will be on the board.

This year marks Monopoly's 80th anniversary. Cities were selected by a worldwide poll that brought in nearly 4 million votes from 182 countries, the company said.

"Inviting our fans to get involved in the creation of the newest Monopoly game was a great way to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the brand," said Jonathan Berkowitz, vice president of global marketing for gaming at Hasbro. "It was amazing to see both fans and local organizations around the world rally behind their cities and we were wowed by the overwhelming pride people displayed during the Here & Now vote."
