Authorities Identify Woman Found Burned To Death In Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER (CBS) -- Authorities have identified the woman who was found bound and burned to death in Bridgewater late Tuesday night as 29-year-old Ashley Bortner of New Jersey.

Bridgewater police received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked and two people in the area of the MBTA railroad tracks at Oak and Crapo streets around 11:40 p.m., according to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office.

Investigators say they found a fire burning on the west side of the tracks and soon discovered it was a human body on fire. Firefighters put the fire out, and they determined it was a woman who had died.

State Police and Bridgewater police continue to investigate the incident, which they believe was a targeted attack that was not random in nature. The case also doesn't appear to be tied to the burned body and car fire in Worcester on Wednesday night, investigators said.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call Massachusetts State Police at (508) 923-4000.
