Allston Man Held On $10,000 Bail In Fatal Beacon Street Crash
BOSTON (CBS) – An Allston man was ordered held on $10,000 bail Monday for his role in a crash in the Back Bay that left a young couple dead earlier this summer.
Mohamed Alfageeh, 30, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Suffolk Superior Court to two counts of motor vehicle homicide and one count of negligent operation of a motor vehicle in the deaths of Jessica Campbell and John Lanzillotti on June 21.
Friends and relatives of the couple were in the courtroom, but did not speak to reporters.
Assistant District Attorney Gregory Henning told the court Monday Alfageeh was the driver who caused the fatal crash that night.
He ran a red light on Beacon Street at Fairfield Street, struck the front end of another vehicle in the intersection and spun through the intersection, according to Henning.
Alfageeh's Ford Explorer hit Campbell and Lanzillotti as it skidded through the crosswalk. The SUV landed on its roof after hitting two parked cars.
Alfageeh's wife, Ghuzlan Alghazali, 26, of Allston, was arrested two days after the crash and was set to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on two counts of motor vehicle homicide, one count of negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and one count of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. But that arraignment was cancelled because of "conflicting information" in the case, authorities said at the time.
Alghazali was released while investigators gathered more evidence.
Alfageeh was indicted then Thursday by a Suffolk County Grand Jury. He turned himself in Monday.
His wife has not been charged in the crash.
Alfageeh's license and right to operate a motor vehicle were revoked indefinitely because of his involvement in the crash, according to the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
He was ordered to surrender his passport while the case is pending. He's due back in court September 22 for a pre-trial conference.
