46 Goats Surrendered From Montague Home Up For Adoption
MONTAGUE (CBS) -- A Montague man has turned in 46 goats living at his home to the MSPCA in what is considered one of the largest single goat surrenders in the organization's history.
The unidentified man said he became overwhelmed with the growing number of goats.
The goats, now housed at the MSPCA-Nevins Farm, are undergoing treatment for Coccidia, a highly contagious intestinal bacteria, as well as round, whip and tape worms. Many of the female goats are pregnant, according to the MSPCA.
"We had to jump into action very quickly," said Gia Barss of Nevins Farm.
The MSPCA is now looking for people to adopt the goats and will consider adopters who have other farm animals on their property or those willing to take home at least two of the goats.
Because many of the goats have horns and it is too late to remove them, homes with children may not be the best fit.
Barss said the goats are very social and "eat anything."
"They're really sweet and a lot of fun," she said.
