WEATHER BLOG: Beautiful Sunday
Yesterday was about as warm as you can get for the time of year, in fact Philadelphia Airport reported a new record high of 69, with Baltimore reporting a tied record of 71. Temperatures this morning have struggled to drop off significantly yet in some locations, with our overnight lows likely eclipsing our normal highs by a significant margin. The deepening storm to our southwest would make you believe that today would be torchingly warm in the northeast again, however a subtle player is present today in the form of a backdoor cold front. This front will set up somewhere between New York
City and Trenton by days end. South of the boundary temperatures will soar again, likely tying and breaking records.
The Philadelphia, Allentown, Reading, and Trenton records are all particularly low-hanging fruit at 65, 62, 61, and 65 respectively. North of the boundary temperatures may have a chance to lift above records given the mild overnight.
Temperatures overnight in New York City hovered between 60 and 63. This is amazing considering a record high of 64, was almost broken around midnight.
Overnight temperatures will remain above normal highs overnight with the hefty Plains storm moving sluggishly, with rain finally arriving on Monday, late in the day, but not before another very warm day. The system itself is way out in front of the trough which is backed up in the Rockies, and the boundary passing through the region will barely bring a cool down across the region. Temperatures over 10 degrees above normal will persist into midweek, before the trough swings through late week. The GFS is flatter and faster with cold air aloft, while the European looks more amplified but
slower with cold air. As a result Friday temperatures right now are highly in question… with the potential error from our forecast number being on the warmer side.
