Va. Man Convicted In Md. Jewelry Store Robbery
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Prosecutors are recommending a 15-year prison term for a northern Virginia man convicted of first-degree assault and armed robbery of a jewelry store in downtown Frederick, Maryland.
The Frederick News-Post reports that 33-year-old Alonzo Meadows of Fairfax was convicted Thursday after entering Alford pleas. An Alford plea is not an admission of guilt but an acknowledgement the state has enough evidence to convict.
Prosecutors say Meadows and two other men robbed Colonial Jewelers at gunpoint in a daytime smash-and-grab on Feb. 5, 2013, making away with nearly $200,000 worth of Rolex watches. The other two men haven't been found.
During the investigation, police linked Meadows to a stolen U.S. Marshals Service rifle. He was prosecuted federally in connection with the gun and sentenced to four years in federal prison.
