Prince George's County Officer Suspended

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- A probationary officer has been suspended from Prince George's County Police Department after being charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct in New Jersey.

The Washington Post reports that Officer Steven Varga was arrested in Atlantic City on Wednesday. He was off-duty at the time of his arrest. No other details about the arrest were immediately available.

The Post cited a police statement that said Varga was assigned to the department's patrol bureau and worked for the county for one year.
