BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- One person is dead after being shot by a police officer in east Baltimore Monday evening, officials said.

The shooting happened around 6 p.m. in the 1800 block of North Chester Street.

Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said officers received a Shot Spotter alert and when they arrived they found a man armed with a gun who they believe was firing in the area.

An officer shot the man who later died at a hospital. No officers were hurt, police said.

The incident is believed to have stemmed from an argument between two groups of people. The suspect reportedly shot at the opposing group after another man was shot in the leg.

That man is in stable condition, police said.
