Off-Duty Trooper Among 50 Arrested In Weekend DUI Effort

MARION STATION, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police say an off-duty trooper was among more than 50 drivers arrested for driving under the influence during the agency's Super Bowl weekend traffic enforcement program.

The agency said in a news release that Trooper First Class John Dize Jr. was arrested late Saturday after his pickup truck drove off the road and into a field in Marion Station.

Police say Dize was injured in the incident and taken to a hospital. Authorities say he is charged with driving under the influence and failing to obey designated lane directions.

The department says Dize has been suspended with pay.
