Md. Man Pleads Guilty To Killing 2-Year-Old
SUITLAND, Md. (AP) -- Prosecutors say a 28-year-old Maryland man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and child abuse in the death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old son.
Prosecutors say Clifton Bernard of Suitland pleaded guilty Monday. Prosecutors say that on May 22, 2013, Bernard was watching his girlfriend's 2-year-old child while the boy's mother was at work. Prosecutors say that during the day Bernard became angry with the boy and assaulted him. Prosecutors say Bernard rammed the boy's head through the drywall in the apartment in which they were staying. The boy later died.
Sentencing is set for Feb. 26. Prosecutors say Bernard faces up to 70 years in prison.
Bernard's attorney did not immediately return a telephone message requesting comment.
