Maryland Won't Process Electronic Returns From 6 Liberty Tax Locations

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Comptroller Peter Franchot says his office has stopped processing electronic tax returns from several Liberty Tax Service franchise locations in the Baltimore area because of questionable returns.

Franchot said in a news release Wednesday that six of the franchises are in Baltimore and one is in Dundalk.

The comptroller says among the suspicions raised by numerous returns from Liberty Tax Service are business income for people who don't own businesses; refund requests much higher than previous years; and inflated wage and withholding information.
